GREAT BRITISH
GOALTENDING CLINIC
History Of The School
Since 2002 The Great British Goaltending Clinics have been coaching goalies of all
ages and abilities. Goalies from all over the world have been coming to our clinics, even
goalies from hockey power house nations such as Canada, USA, Russia and Sweden
have attended the school aswell as students from all corners of Great Britain. Our
clinics have a very high return rate of students every year. We feel this is because the
school is run very professionally and we ensure each and every student receives the
best goalie coaching available in the UK. Our on ice programme ensures that no matter
what age or level a goalie is at, we can adapt the programme around there individual
needs. After 5 years  we have had many graduates of the school play professional ice
hockey and represent there country at varying levels. Graduates have progressed to
play in the EIHL, EPL and ENL. Many have also received international honours
representing Great Britain U20's, U18's, U16's and England U15's and U13's, with many
other goalies also representing there Junior Conference Teams.
Our Philosophy
At the Great British Goaltending Clinic we feel that every goaltender is different and all
play a slightly different style. We aim to identify the best style for each goalie and help
them develop that style, and maximise there strengths to ensure they make the most of
there abilities. Every goalie may be different but they must ensure they learn all the
different aspects of goaltending and we show some of the aspects of playing goal
below.

SKATING AND MOVEMENT
Goalies need to be very good skaters to ensure they can move around there crease
quickly  to make sure they are in a good position to face each shot. Each goalie will
work on every movement around the goal on every session. It is a myth that goalies
don't need to be good skaters

GOALTENDING SKILLS
There are many different skills a goaltender needs to learn and the more skills they
can develop and master the better prepared they will be for all the different game
situations they will encounter. The more skills they have the more confident and
effective goaltender they will become. Goalies will work on every different type of save
and every skill on our camps.

SAVE SELECTION
The type of save a goaltender makes will depend on the situation. Positioning, time
and distance are some of the factors that will influence how a goalie should react in
any given situation. We have developed drills to ensure students find themselves in
varying situations and ensure they learn the best way to react in each situation and
ensure they know the best save to select.

MENTAL TOUGHNESS AND FOCUS
We believe goalies need to be extremely mentally tough and very focused. We work
with goalies both on and off the ice to ensure they are mentally strong, can focus and
concentrate for the full game. We also help them focus on the game and learn to read
plays as they develop on the ice so they are always in the best place at the right time.

REBOUND CONTROL
By controlling your rebounds a goalie can ensure that they do not face as many shots
and ensure they therefore reduce the number of goals they concede. We work with the
students to ensure they  learn how to control there rebounds by either catching,
covering the puck or deflecting it away from the goal and out of the danger zone.

RECOVERY
After making a save a goalie has to recover as quick as they can to ensure they are in
the best position to make another save possibly immediately after. We will teach
goalies how best to recover to there ready position or if this is not possible how to
move around the net on there knees or how to make DESPERATION SAVES! We will
work on improving a students recovery with various drills we have developed.

COME TO THE GREAT BRITISH GOALTENDING CLINIC AND LET US HELP YOU
DEVELOP ALL THE SKILLS ABOVE AND MORE TO ENSURE YOU REACH YOUR
FULL POTENTIAL!!
